RWC Group President, Robert "Bob" Cunningham, receives Pioneer Award from ATA!

Today, RWC Group is celebrating and congratulating our President Robert W (Bob) Cunningham, on being awarded the prestigious Pioneer Award by the Arizona Trucking Association! The Pioneer Award, established in 2006, recognizes individuals who have helped advance the goals of commercial transportation, built successful companies, dedicated their time to strengthen the industry’s association, and contributed to the betterment of their communities within Arizona. The award first started in 2006 and has carried on the tradition of awarding “Today’s Pioneers – Tomorrow’s Frontiers” ever since. Honorees are selected by the association’s Leadership Conference Committee and presented during the conference, recognizing the importance of the award. After 2006, it recommended to ATA’s Board of Directors that the awards be made permanent and presented when appropriate individuals should be recognized.

Robert W (Bob) Cunningham began his career in the trucking industry in 1973 at IML Freight Lines. His first job was loading trucks as he worked his way through The University of Utah. Bob has remained in the industry for his entire career. After graduation, Cunningham spent six years in sales and operations in Utah, Arizona, and California with Motor Cargo. In 1985, Bob joined Swift Transportation where he served as Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing and served as a member of the board of directors when Swift went public. At the age of 42, he left corporate America and purchased the Arizona Freightliner dealerships, developing one of the nation’s most successful Freightliner franchises. In 2004 Bob was asked to return to Swift Transportation as President and CEO until Swift was taken private. In 2010 Bob purchased the Arizona International Truck dealerships and Idealease locations, establishing RWC Group. Today RWC Group has revenues exceeding $500 million, operating 17 dealerships in 5 states with over 800 employees. RWC Group Idealease currently owns 1,985 trucks.
